Allegra (Fexofenadine)

Drug Uses

Allegra is an antihistamine that is used to relieve the symptoms (itchy/ watery/ red eyes and a sneezing and runny nose) of hay fever. It can be used by adults and children over 6.

How it is taken

The best way to take is as recommended by your doctor. You may also check dosage instructions on the product label.

The normal dosage is twice a day with a glass of water usually in the morning and the evening.

Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of, then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Storage

Store it at room temperature (between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in an air tight container protecting it from direct exposure to light, heat and moisture.

Warnings/Precautions

Do not take Allegra if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it. Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have any serious illness such as heart, kidney, or liver disease. You may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have other illnesses. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is also not known whether Allegra passes into breast milk. Do not take Allegra without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Allegra is not approved for use by children younger than 6 years of age.

SIDE EFFECTS

Stop taking Allegra and call you doctor if you have manifested an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; narrowing of the airways, swelling of the lips, tongue, face, or hives). Allergic reactions are extremely rare, and other serious side effects may not occur. However, there may be some less serious side effects. Continue to take Allegra and talk to your doctor if you experience nausea or an upset stomach. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that worries you most.
